Years pass like days.
So, the Wilson twins have celebrated ANOTHER birthday since my last post. That is just a great example of how out of touch Betty has been with this blog situation. Sincere Apologies, folks. If it’s any consolation, I have been thinking a lot about this blog, and what direction I’d like to go with it.
Ideas abound, if only time and $$$ shared that same quality.
So, here’s the deal. Lots of things have shifted around during the course of our journey these past 13 months. For one, shop life is no longer my main gig. That’s right. Betty is a bona fide professional these days. Slangin’ lab supplies to grad students and mad scientists all over Texas. This new gig keeps me on the road most days, which has its ups and downs. I am stoked on the loot, but bummed on having a BOSS.
But, such is life. Years pass like days.
Suddenly terrified and inspired by that thought, I realize that I cant wait any longer to take the time to redirect my energy in the direction of my own choosing, to create my own reality and my own fun.
BettyProfeshnal will, from this day on, be a forum for figuring out how to live the dream inside your head. For me that means traveling, writing, learning and generally living phat with my family. I will still post about fresh sneakers and fanning out on pro skaters who come through my shop, because that is part of my dream which already exists. The greater portion of the content here will be a true life account of the struggle and hopefully success of manifesting a life of freedom and creative expression.
I am going for it, kids. Like never before. Stay tuned and leave comments if you want dibs on the maiden voyage with betty profesh in the private jet!

charmed life
sometimes it feels like the darkness will never end.
other times, the exiliration of living is almost too much to be contained within the limits of my smile.
thank jeebus for skateboarding.
the shop has been poppin these past few weeks and Betty is loving it.
we’ve had demos out the wazoo, so that’s been hectic. But for the most part, its been all fun and games. betty even busted out on a board for a mellow (probably funny looking) cruise to emerald city with the bros, yesterday.
In other excellent news, Betty has graduated to gripping boards for customers. That’s right, I’m getting skilled, son.
one day soon, it’s gonna be my man, sb, who stays home with the bitty’s while betty goes out shredding. and thats the word.

Rat Posse maturing?
not likely.
although, Brooks and Alder did celebrate their birthday this weekend.
Happy birfday, little bros. I would have left this on your myspace, but 14 year old girls can be viciously territorial and I’d rather not cross any up and coming young bettys.
What is the rat posse, you may ask? Some say they’re mascots. But really, as a group, I’d say they’re more of a collected muse. Simply put, these kids are rad. Their energy is totally timeless. No-Comply might be just another lame shop if it weren’t for the enthusiasm and dedication of these youngish weirdos and their friends.
Big up rat posse! Alder, Brooks, Jack, Diallo, Aaron, Dawson, & Devon-You Rule.
See you at the shop.
Rat Posse lurk status = permanent.

this ain’t no fashion show
this is skateboarding. in austin. in 105 degrees.
Even so, it’s okay that you’re about to buy another pair of pants or shoes that will be fubar’d three weeks from now all because you spent your free time in some ditch.
Here’s what you’ll be destoying in the near future: Just in time for Back to Gruel-ing.
New Light weight stretch cords from Enjoi [did she just say 'cords'? in this heat? is she insane? yes. yes. and yes. They are the perfect pants in any condition. Once you see them, you'll understand.]
Buttery chinos also from Enjoi. [great for making a positive impression on a new teacher on the first day of class this semester. Not responsible for subsequent truancy when you realize both the pants and your time are put to better use elsewhere...obvs.]
Satori Bamboo Polo. [ floss the irie vibe and stay under the radar when you cruise in to class in this mega soft, low key polo. Visine not included.]
Pics to come. Meanwhile, check me out at No-Comply this Saturday. But be warned, there is a 30 minute lurk limit, unless you buy something which extends your lurk status up to one hour. Gifts of iced coffee, sweets, or fragrant herbs extend said status indefinitely, or until the treats run out.

the sickness
there seems to be a rash of self consciousness going around.
several of my homies have recently expressed some form of this phenomenon best expressed by Kramer from Seinfeld when he wailed, “LOOK AWAY! I’M HIDEOUS!
even i have been having second thoughts about what people might think, or more importantly, what people might think that I think about myself, since i started putting myself out there as a “professional betty”. (my mental ‘others’ comments: aren’t bettys supposed to be hot? she probably thinks she’s hot. man what conceited bitch.)
Whatever form this loathsome self doubt takes, I feel compelled to speak out against it.
So this is my declaration to all my ridiculously talented, yet ridiculously modest friends and family:
Stop being so damn modest already.
Your photography is sick. Your artwork is amazing.Your footage kills. Your business idea is off the chain.
Work that shit. Work it. Work it. Own it.
Back in East Texas, long before my Betty days, I had this motto that I used to get myself psyched up before going out (to a football game, natch) wearing something incredibly chic and daring ( ie flamboyant and scandalous). I would say to my awed little sisters, “Go big, or go home, girls.”
Go Big, indeed.

Here’s a little inspiration I found on the interwebs, bbs. This is from the SkateboarderMag online.
I had been hoping to speak with Mr. Field myself in the near future, but this interview pretty much nails my general topic of interest, so I’m including it here to get the ball rolling.
namaste, bros.

what is footy?
it’s not often that a Betty gets any footage showcasing her awesome Bettiness, so I’m taking the time to post my own cameo in a clip from Toad and Salmon’s Chili Bowl a while back. I know everybody but my mom has probably already seen this but i’m posting it anyway. This was one of the raddest days I’ve had all summer, even if my vegan chili was described by the judges as “too aromatic, with it’s bouquet of cumin and hints of dark chocolate.” I guess chili is supposed to smell like a fart, even before you eat it. No hard feelings tho. The footage doesn’t lie. That shiz was mega hot.

Skateboard Lifestyle can be pretty hectic. Especially for a Betty with a lot on her plate. Here’s the lowdown on business as uzual.
Today, was mostly phone calls and emails around getting the big Satori Movement / Whole Foods Demo sorted out. I’m so psyched on this concept, and happy that it’s coming together in a big way for the second year in a row. Word is: we’ll be having Ron Allen out here for that, and maybe Guru if it works out with his travel schedule. I have a feeling that the demo is going to be a No-Comply talent bonanza, tho. I know I’m hella partial, but I can’t wait to see Carter, Max, Grant, Flint, Bus and Ryan destroy that poor parking lot.
That’s all going down Saturday August 16th from 4-8 in the Whole Foods South Lamar Parking Lot.
In the mean time, get your ohmygoditsfkinghot sleeveless tank shirts from Satori at No-Comply.
They’re made from bamboo, which is antibacterial, so in theory they minimize the stank from a few hours of skating. Betty can’t promise all that, but at least they look fresh and keep you cool while playing in the streets in the Texas heat. I’d like to upload pic of these but, can’t be sure i’ll get around to it. Best if you just come on by the shop and see for yourselves.
Also just in at the shop: ROGER boards by mikey sieben. I hope he doesn’t mind me calling him mikey. weed and cobras is hilarious anyway.
And last but not least, AND NOW- the new Transworld Vid is available at No-Comply. Buy it now or Come see it at Wahoo’s on Saturday.
Thats all for now, bbs. Stay cool.
